Islamabad, May 19, 2025 — The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) nominated Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati as Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday.

JCP Reaches Unanimous Decision

The JCP convened in Islamabad to review nominations for the BHC’s top position. All members agreed to nominate Justice Swati. The Supreme Court’s public relations office issued a press release confirming the nomination. The JCP sent a circular to the prime minister’s office for action on the nomination.

Background of Balochistan High Court Nominee Justice Ejaz Swati

Justice Swati has served as acting chief justice of the BHC since February 14, 2025. He was born on June 6, 1963, in Quetta. Swati completed his early education at Tameer-i-Nau Public School, Quetta, in 1978. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Balochistan. He completed his LLB at University Law College Quetta in 1988.

Legal Journey and Judicial Service of Justice Ejaz Swati

Justice Swati enrolled as an advocate of the BHC on November 28, 1991. Swati became an advocate of the Supreme Court on April 18, 2007. He practiced law for over 22 years in various courts across Pakistan. He served as a judge at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Turbat from March 2002 to October 2003. On August 30, 2013, he became an additional judge of the BHC. The court confirmed his position as a permanent judge on September 2, 2015.

He was also appointed as the judge of the anti-terrorism court at Turbat on March 5, 2002, and resigned from the post on October 14, 2003. He was elevated as an additional judge of the BHC on August 30, 2013, and confirmed as a judge on September 2, 2015. Justice Swati’s nomination reflects the JCP’s trust in his leadership.
