Lahore, May 20, 2025 — The Punjab government has announced Punjab summer vacations 2025 for all public and private schools starting May 28. The early decision responds to the extreme heatwave affecting students across the province.

Punjab Revises School Timings from May 21

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the vacation schedule change during an official statement. He said schools will operate from 7:30am to 11:30am starting May 21, up until the break begins. The government aims to minimize health risks for students while maintaining some academic continuity.

Government Acts on Heatwave Threat to Student Health

Minister Hayat said the government moved the vacation date forward from June 1 due to rising temperatures. He stressed that student safety remains the government’s top priority. “We cannot compromise on children’s health,” he said. “Our teams are working to address learning loss without exposing students to harmful weather conditions.”

Schools Receive Heat Safety Guidelines

The Punjab Education Ministry has directed schools to implement immediate safety measures. Officials instructed school administrations to:

  • Provide clean, cold drinking water.
  • Ensure working fans and ventilation systems.
  • Suspend all outdoor sports and activities.
  • Encourage students to wear light-colored, loose clothing.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also issued a safety advisory. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia ordered all schools to follow the guidelines strictly and to suspend classes temporarily if conditions worsen.

PMD Warns of Second Heatwave This Week

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted a second heatwave from *May 20 to May 24. According to officials, temperatures will rise 4 to 7°C above normal, especially in southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. PMD warned that areas in *central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan will also face extreme weather due to high atmospheric pressure and a westerly trough.
