Peshawar – On August 13, 2025, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) declared a number of major operational achievements, reflecting its newfound strengths in the fight against terrorism.
In a press statement, the CTD outlined key successes in various prominent cases, such as the solving of the murder of Mufti Munir Shakir and the elimination of a fatal Daesh Khurasan network.
The press release focused on the committed work by the CTD regarding addressing unresolved investigations, which has also resulted in several significant successes against militant organizations.
High Profile Cases Resolved
The CTD, in one of its most significant achievements, has managed to solve the murder of Mufti Munir Shakir in an IED explosion. The department has already identified the militant group that launched the attack and is currently in the process of hunting the suspects who are likely to be captured soon. It is a breakthrough in the long-term investigative work of the CTD Peshawar.
Another significant CTD Peshawar operation led to the crackdown of a militant gang that was involved in at least 18 cases of terrorism in the settled parts of Peshawar. These attacks resulted in the loss of the lives of innocent people, including the martyrdom of DSP Sardar Hussain Khan and 14 other police officials of different ranks. The dismantling of this group is a significant setback to the organized militant network functioning in the area and is likely to have a significant effect on the threat to law enforcement officers and civilians.
The CTD also announced in a proactive step that a large stockpile of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials has been recovered, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This recovery was directly due to intelligence obtained by captured terrorists in various cases. This prompt response not only resulted in the identification of these materials but also saw the department intercept at least six sensitive installations that had been in the last stages of an intended attack.
Breakthrough in Major Cases
Besides these successes in operations, the CTD has also achieved some breakthroughs in other important cases. The department has already uncovered the militant group behind the targeted killings of various religious scholars, and follow-up operations will be carried out with greater precision to ensure that those behind it face justice.
It was also confirmed by the press release that a Daesh Khurasan network that directly caused a suicide attack in Peshawar on May 11, 2025, had been dismantled.
The press release said that these successes show the undeterred determination and improved capacity of CTD KP in fighting terrorism. The department also reaffirmed that it would continue to go after all other remaining fugitives, prevent any threats before they occur, and guarantee the safety and security of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The results of the strategic reinforcements in the operational capacity of the CTD, such as the specialized units and the training, seem to be yielding concrete results, as it is being heralded as a fortified front against terrorism in the province.
