Islamabad – The People’s Republic of China today celebrated its 76th National Day, marking the founding of the nation with massive ceremonies in Beijing.

The political leaders and diplomats across Pakistan delivered heartfelt messages reaffirming the deep strategic partnership between the two countries.

The celebrations underscored the “all-weather friendship” while highlighting renewed commitments to the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The main national event was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where thousands gathered early in the morning for a spectacular flag-raising ceremony. The solemn reading of the national song and a precise parade performed by the Honorary Guards of the People’s Liberation Army provided a display of national unity and strength.

The Square was further adorned with a charming flower basket placed at its centre, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. Similar flag-hoisting ceremonies were observed across the country, including in Hong Kong, where the Chief Executive and senior officials participated, stressing the government’s resolve to continuously improve the legal system and national security protection.

President’s Message

President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated Beijing, extending best wishes for the prosperity and achievements of the Chinese President and people.

In a special message, President Zardari emphasized the strengthening bond, stating that the people of Pakistan share in the happiness of China.

The President praised the leadership of President Xi Jinping, noting that it has “taken China to new heights of development.”

Zardari affirmed that China’s “brilliant pursuit of development, unity, and resilience” reinforced the commitment to the strategic ties, which he personally seeks to strengthen following his recent visits.

Prime Minister Highlights Bilateral Investment

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also issued a congratulatory message, stating that Pakistan is “proud of its long-standing and brotherly relations with China.”

The Prime Minister prayed for China’s continued development, prosperity, and success, recognizing the day as a reminder of China’s excellent national journey and its pivotal role in world peace and development.

He confirmed that the visit secured “billions of dollars of investment agreements” reached during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting and a key Business to Business Conference.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of CPEC, announcing that the flagship project has now successfully entered its Phase II. He expressed hope that the two nations would soon elevate their partnership to a “new milestone” under President Xi’s leadership.

He stressed that the friendship is based on confidence and shared dreams, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to cooperation under CPEC Phase 2 and the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming for a “shared prosperous future.”

In a separate message, Federal Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to China’s “practical interpretation of the dream of economic stability and sustainable development.” He called CPEC a “bright example” of the historical, strategic, and strong partnership.

Naqvi firmly stated that China’s unwavering support during “every crisis, regional tension or internal challenge” makes relations with China a “permanent and central pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy.”
