NEW DELHI_ Indian security agencies have detained several individuals in illegally occupied Kashmir as part of an ongoing investigation into Monday’s deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station, according to The Associated Press. Police confirmed that at least five people were taken into custody for questioning during overnight raids conducted in the Pulwama district of southern Kashmir.
Suspected Militant Cell Dismantled
The detentions follow an earlier operation in which authorities claimed to have dismantled a suspected cell believed to be operating between illegally occupied Kashmir and the outskirts of New Delhi. Officials said the group was allegedly involved in planning or supporting the blast. In a related development, seven additional suspects, including two doctors, were arrested in Faridabad, a city in Haryana state bordering Delhi. Law enforcement officers reportedly seized weapons and bomb-making materials during the raid.
Investigation Underway into Blast Cause
Delhi Police spokesperson Sanjay Tyagi said authorities were examining “all possible angles,” including the possibility of a terror attack, accidental blast, or mechanical failure in the car. Preliminary forensic teams have been deployed to the blast site near the historic Red Fort, a high-security zone often crowded with tourists and commuters. The explosion has raised new concerns over security lapses in the Indian capital, especially ahead of several upcoming public events.
