PESHAWAR: The KP CTD Operation achieved a major breakthrough on Tuesday after the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with Elite Forces and local police, arrested a suicide bomber and his facilitator during a targeted intelligence-based operation (IBO).
Intel-Led Operation Near Dry Stream
According to the CTD spokesperson, the KP CTD Operation was launched after credible intelligence was received about the presence of suspected militants near a dry stream in the region. Security teams swiftly surrounded the area and carried out a precise raid, leading to the arrest of both individuals without resistance.
Facilitator from Bajaur
Initial investigations confirmed that the arrested suicide bomber hails from Afghanistan’s Balkh province, while the facilitator was identified as Rafiullah, a resident of Bajaur. Officials said the suspects were actively engaged in planning terrorist activities and stockpiling dangerous materials for an imminent attack.
Weapons and Explosives Recovered
During the KP CTD Operation, security forces recovered three hand grenades, a detonating device, and a significant quantity of explosive materials from the suspects. Authorities believe these items were meant to be used in a high-casualty attack targeting security forces or public gatherings.
Network Under Investigation
CTD officials confirmed that both suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. A broader investigation has been launched to trace the network behind the planned attack and identify any cross-border links. The spokesperson affirmed that the KP CTD Operation will continue across the province to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent attempts to destabilize the region.
