Islamabad – The Foreign Office of Pakistan has declared that it is paying close attention to the current state of affairs in Yemen, and it is determined to devote itself to the regional diplomatic effort to find a long-term solution.

In a statement issued late on Friday, Islamabad expressed its optimism in the Yemen peace efforts to succeed, and that all local stakeholders should refrain from any unilateral developments that would complicate the conflict.

The government stressed the issue of Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity as the key to any future deal.

Rising Tensions in the South

The restraint call is timely. At the beginning of this month, the Southern Transitional Council (STC), one of the largest separatist groups, drove the internationally recognized government out of its base in Aden.

The action has posed a complex scenario, where the STC now boasts of the expansive domination of the south.

To keep Yemen’s peace efforts on course, Saudi Arabia has intervened, insisting that separatists give back what they have occupied to aid in defusing tensions in the government camp itself.

Commending Regional Leaders

Although these issues exist internally, the international community struggles to show a single front.

The Foreign Office praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its leadership in these discussions and commended the UAE for its supportive role in such delicate talks.

The foreign ministry in the UAE also recently reiterated its support for the Saudi-led stability efforts.

To make Yemen peace efforts effective, Pakistan feels that the positive role of these Gulf allies is necessary to bring various factions to the table.

A Call for Dialogue and Relief

Since the war intensified a few years back, the Yemeni people have been suffering immeasurably.

Although an UN-brokered truce in 2022 contributed to a reduction in the violence, the new power games in the south jeopardize such developments. Pakistan is now urging all Yemeni partners to participate in good faith.

Through the Yemen peace efforts, the aim is to shift away from temporary ceasefires in conflict and towards an inclusive, negotiated political resolution on agreed parameters.

Moving Toward Concrete Results

Islamabad was optimistic that the present round of diplomacy would soon be converted into actual, concrete action on the ground.

The Foreign Office emphasized that the long-running war can be stopped only via an inclusive political dialogue, which will provide relief to the population.

Pakistan continues to be a staunch advocate of the Yemen peace efforts as the world observes the happenings in Yemen, hoping that with patience and mutual regional dedication, the plight of the Yemeni people will eventually end.
