Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the roadmap for promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan, stating that SMEs form the backbone of the national economy. He urged relevant authorities to accelerate measures that ensure banks and financial institutions provide loans to SMEs on easy terms.

Speaking at a meeting on Monday regarding SMEDA’s business plan for SME development, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government aims to enhance the SME sector to boost exports and strengthen the overall economy.


Government Approves Three-Year Roadmap for SME Growth

The Prime Minister commended Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and SMEDA’s newly appointed board of directors for creating a practical and effective plan. Officials presented a detailed three-year roadmap addressing challenges faced by SMEs, strategies to integrate SMEs into national exports, and other initiatives included in the business plan.

The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance Pakistani SMEs’ competitiveness in global markets. Multiple workshops were conducted recently in six cities to increase SME capacity, and training programs continue to prepare SMEs for international competition. Women’s participation in the SME sector and initiatives to strengthen their role were also discussed.


High-Level Officials Attend SME Development Meeting

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmed, chief secretaries of all provinces, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SMEDA board members participated in the meeting.

The Prime Minister also met National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who briefed him on his recent visit to Bangladesh. Discussions included parliamentary affairs, negotiations with PTI, and the appointment of the opposition leader.


Bangladesh Visit Strengthens Bilateral Parliamentary Relations

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq described his Bangladesh visit as highly productive, providing a briefing on a brief meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. He explained that Jaishankar personally came to greet him and introduce himself as India’s foreign minister in a short 6–7 second interaction.

The Speaker also updated the Prime Minister on meetings with Bangladeshi leadership and Khaleda Zia’s family members, highlighting the warm and positive reception by the Bangladeshi public. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated him on the successful visit and stated that Pakistan will strengthen bilateral relations with Bangladesh across all sectors.
