Washington — US President Donald Trump said he has held discussions with the Iranian government and is planning further talks.

Speaking to reporters at the premiere of the documentary Melania, Trump added: “We currently have very large and powerful ships moving toward Iran. If we are not forced to use them, that will be ideal.”

In response to questions about messages sent to Tehran, he explained: “I told them two things: first, do not pursue nuclear weapons, and second, stop killing protesters. They are killing thousands of their own citizens. They need to take action.”

The US president reiterated the deployment of substantial military assets toward Iran and expressed hope that their use will not be necessary, while warning that Washington is prepared to respond if Tehran continues hostile actions.

Trump’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, showing a strategy that combines diplomatic engagement with a show of military strength, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the repression of domestic protests.
