An alleged audio leak of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram has surfaced revealing internal disagreements within the party over the planning and execution of a recent sit-in aimed at meeting former prime minister Imran Khan, according to media reports.
In the audio, Akram is heard stating that several members of the National Assembly failed to attend the sit-in attributing the absence to poor coordination and late communication.
He reportedly said that lawmakers should have been informed the night before about the gathering, a point he linked to instructions issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Akram described the last-minute directive for MPs to arrive immediately as “unreasonable,” noting that many lawmakers live in remote areas and lack access to helicopters for rapid travel.
He further argued that if the sit-in had been properly planned, the party should have ensured the participation of all 90 MPAs underscoring what he described as avoidable organizational lapses.
The leak has intensified scrutiny of PTI’s internal coordination at a time when unity is crucial. Separately, Humayun Mohmand said on a television program that withholding information about Imran Khan’s medical examination from party leadership would constitute a serious offence.
He questioned why such information, if known, was not disclosed, stressing that while some matters may remain private concerns about a leader’s health should not be concealed.
Together, the remarks point to growing tensions within PTI over communication, transparency and leadership coordination.
