In Bannu’s Mamma Khel area, terrorists linked to the Taliban attacked a police van, killing an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and injuring another officer. The attackers set the police vehicle on fire, completely destroying it.
According to police sources, the van was on a routine patrol when armed militants opened fire. The ASI was martyred instantly, while his colleague sustained injuries. Soon after, the attackers fled the scene, leaving the van burning.
Following the attack, security forces and police rushed to the site. Armored vehicles were also sent to secure the area. Reports said there was a brief exchange of gunfire between police and the militants before a large-scale search operation began. The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors are providing urgent care.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Soheil Afridi took strict notice of the incident. He expressed deep grief over the ASI’s death and condemned the attack. “Such cowardly acts by terrorists cannot weaken the morale of our security forces,” he said.
The Chief Minister also directed authorities to ensure the injured officer receives the best medical care. He reassured the public that the provincial government stands firmly with the family of the martyr.
Authorities have vowed to continue operations in the area to arrest the attackers and prevent future incidents. The incident highlights the ongoing threat of terrorism in the region and the challenges faced by security forces on daily patrols.
