CHANDIGARH: A high-intensity explosion outside the Punjab BJP office in India’s Chandigarh has reportedly been claimed by Sikh separatist leader Sukha Singh Babbar, while security agencies have intensified their investigation into the incident.

According to Indian media, the blast occurred on April 1 at approximately 4:45 PM near the Rotary Blood Bank wall in Sector 37, close to the BJP office. The explosion caused damage to nearby vehicles and spread panic in the area; however, no casualties have been reported.

Immediately after the incident, police, security personnel, and forensic teams rushed to the scene. The area was cordoned off, and evidence collection began. Initial investigations suggest the possibility of a grenade attack.

During the investigation, a video has surfaced showing two suspected individuals near the site of the explosion. Police are using the footage to identify the suspects.

Meanwhile, Sukha Singh Babbar claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media statement, describing it as a “message.” However, authorities have not confirmed the claim and are continuing investigations from multiple angles.

The incident comes at a time when BJP leaders have previously faced threats. In July 2024, several leaders received threatening letters and explosive materials, prompting the registration of a case.

Authorities are now examining whether the recent blast is linked to those earlier incidents, while security has been placed on high alert in Chandigarh and surrounding areas.
