NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Security forces have confirmed the identities of eight Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants killed during an intelligence-based operation in Datta Khel on April 1, including two Afghan nationals with prior links to Pakistan.

According to security sources, one of the deceased was identified as Abdul Rehman, son of Zar Wali, a resident of Zurmat district in Afghanistan’s Paktia province. Officials said he had previously lived in a refugee camp in Mansehra, Pakistan, before returning across the border.

The second militant was identified as Amir Hamza Haqyar, son of Abdul Karim, who was deported from Pakistan to Afghanistan in 2023 via the Chaman border crossing, sources added.

Security officials confirmed that all eight militants were affiliated with the banned TTP network and were killed during a targeted counter-terrorism operation in the volatile border region of North Waziristan.

Officials have repeatedly raised concerns over the use of Afghan territory by militant groups targeting Pakistan, noting that cross-border movement, safe havens, and logistical support networks continue to pose a major security challenge. Intelligence assessments suggest that some elements operating from within Afghanistan under the current situation have been facilitating infiltration attempts and coordinated attacks inside Pakistan.

Security analysts say the porous border region has remained a key flashpoint, with militants exploiting difficult terrain and limited oversight to regroup and launch attacks. In response, Pakistan has intensified intelligence-based operations in the tribal districts to dismantle militant infrastructure and prevent cross-border terrorism.
