OTTAWA – APRIL 7- Canada has expressed support for ongoing ceasefire and de-escalation efforts in the Middle East following a phone conversation between Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

In a statement shared on social media, Anand said Canada “values its relationship with Pakistan” and that both sides agreed to remain in close contact on shared priorities, including economic cooperation and people-to-people ties.

She described the exchange as “productive,” noting that Ishaq Dar highlighted progress in ongoing negotiations aimed at reducing regional tensions. Canada, she added, welcomed these diplomatic efforts and underscored the importance of continued dialogue to support stability.

Anand also stressed the need to protect civilian lives and safeguard critical infrastructure amid continuing hostilities in the region. She thanked Pakistan for its role in facilitating diplomatic discussions during what she called a “critical period.”

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and agreed to maintain regular engagement on key areas of cooperation, particularly trade, economic development, and cultural exchange.
