An attempted assassination took place in the Peco Road, Pindi Stop area of Lahore, targeting Maulana Amir Hamza, Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool Pakistan and a well-known Ahl-e-Hadith scholar. According to sources, Maulana Amir Hamza was returning home after appearing on a private TV program “Noor-e-Sahar” on 24 News when two unidentified armed men on a motorcycle followed his vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire.
Maulana Amir Hamza was injured in the attack. Initial medical reports confirm that he sustained a bullet wound to his arm; however, his condition is said to be out of danger. He was immediately shifted for medical treatment, where doctors have stabilized his condition.
Investigation and Response
Following the incident, a heavy police contingent reached the scene and cordoned off the area to collect evidence. Police officials stated that CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being obtained to identify and trace the attackers. Search operations and checkpoints have also been set up at multiple locations to apprehend the assailants.
The attack has triggered concern across religious and political circles. Supporters of Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool and other religious leaders strongly condemned the incident, calling it a cowardly act and demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and enhanced security for religious figures.
