The sounds of heavy artillery once again disturbed the peace in Bajaur as mortar shells fired by Afghan border forces landed near civilian homes in Charmang and Salarzai on April 27, marking yet another unprovoked violation of our territorial sovereignty. While Afghan media outlets circulate unverified rumors regarding clashes in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, the reality on the ground is one of steadfast defense by our security forces. Our soldiers remain the unbreakable shield of the nation, standing firm against every attempt to destabilize the border. The people of Bajaur and Waziristan continue to show the world that their spirit is as rugged and resilient as the mountains they call home.
A Week of Courage and Sacrifice
Terrorists targeted a police vehicle in the Lowi Sam area of Khar tehsil last Friday, wounding 5 dedicated officers who were performing their duties with honor. The true depth of human compassion was on display when a Rescue 1122 ambulance rushed toward the danger to evacuate the injured, only to be struck by cowardly attackers in the Rashakai area. This assault wounded the driver and 2 civilians, yet the mission to save lives never faltered. This same week, extremists destroyed an abandoned police post in Lowi Mamund tehsil, following a mortar strike from the Afghan side that hit a residential home. The pattern of these attacks remains clear and deliberate. Our security forces successfully thwarted a militant infiltration attempt in South Waziristan on Sunday, which prompted Afghan forces to turn their guns toward innocent civilians in the Zalulkhel area of Angoor Adda. The wives of local residents Rahimullah and Zainullah were among those rushed to the hospital in Wana, bearing the scars of a conflict they did not start but have been forced to endure.
The Human Face of the Borderlands
The families of the tribal belt represent the ultimate sacrifice for the security of Pakistan. April has been an exceptionally difficult month for the village of Malik Shaheen in Bajaur, where shelling from the Afghan side claimed the lives of a mother and her two children on April 15. This tragedy follows the heartbreaking loss of 4 brothers in Salarzai just 1 month prior. Sajid, Ayaz, Riaz, and Muaz were martyred when a mortar shell struck their home, leaving behind a grieving community and a critically injured 5 year old child. These families are the forgotten heroes of our nation. Their loyalty to the state is written in blood and tears. The elimination of Izzatullah, a high value militant linked to the TTP, further proves the state’s commitment to justice. This individual was the nephew of a former Taliban minister, illustrating how foreign based militant infrastructures continue to target our peace.
The Heavy Price of Peace
Statistical data from the Pak Institute for Peace Studies confirms the immense pressure our nation faced in 2025. Pakistan neutralized 699 terrorist attacks last year, a sharp increase that resulted in the martyrdom of 1,034 individuals. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa absorbed the primary weight of this violence, recording 413 attacks and the loss of 581 precious lives. Civilian casualties reached a decade high, with 580 martyred across the country. Even the education of our daughters is under threat, as evidenced by the destruction of the Government Girls Primary School in Mir Ali last December. These attacks on schools in Bannu and Waziristan are a futile attempt to dim the light of progress.
Identifying the True Aggressors
Security sources have provided undeniable evidence of the foreign networks orchestrating this bloodshed. The bomber behind the February 16 Malangi post attack was identified as Khariji Ahmad, an Afghan citizen and member of the Taliban special forces. This individual was responsible for the martydom of 11 security personnel and two civilians. Investigations have linked these same cross border networks to the Islamabad mosque bombing and the assault on the Jafar Express. The world must acknowledge that the families of Bajaur, Bannu, and Waziristan are standing on the front lines of a global fight against terror. We must ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten and that their bravery remains the foundation of our national security.
