Lahore: Veteran film director and producer Syed Noor has openly shared his disappointment about casting TikToker Jannat Mirza in one of his films. He said the decision turned out to be nothing but a disaster for him.
In a recent interview clip that is now going viral on social media, Syed Noor was asked about his experience of casting social media stars in films based on their follower count. While responding, he said that the film was made with great effort and dedication. However, despite all the hard work, people did not come to cinemas to watch it. According to him, casting Jannat Mirza did not bring the audience as expected.
Why Social Media Fame Did Not Work for Cinema
Meanwhile, Syed Noor explained why this happened. He said that many viewers now feel there is no need to go to the cinema. When they can easily see the same faces on social media every day, they do not feel excited enough to buy tickets and watch a full movie. This thinking, he added, directly harmed the film’s success.
Looking back, the director compared today’s audience with the past. He said that earlier, films had a loyal audience. People waited eagerly for movies of their favorite actors and made plans to watch them in cinemas. But times have changed. The old charm of cinema has faded, and the audience’s interest is no longer the same.
In the end, Syed Noor made it clear that social media popularity does not guarantee box office success. For films to work, the connection with cinema-going audiences still matters more than online fame.
