Bannu: A deadly suicide attack targeted a police checkpost in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing 12 police officers and injuring several others. Officials confirmed that a vehicle filled with explosives was rammed into the Fateh Khel checkpost in Bannu.
According to the Regional Police Officer of Bannu, Sajad Khan, the blast was extremely powerful. It caused the entire building of the checkpost to collapse within seconds. Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately after the explosion.
Rescue Operation Launched After Deadly Blast
Soon after the attack, police and rescue teams launched a large operation to search for survivors trapped under the rubble. Authorities confirmed that 12 officers were recovered dead from the debris, while 3 others were pulled out alive and shifted to hospital.
In addition, security forces sealed off the area and started a search operation to track those responsible. Officials say the situation remains tense as investigations continue.
Checkpost Had 15 Officers on Duty
Reports say that 15 police personnel were present at the checkpost at the time of the attack. Eyewitnesses and police sources said militants used a vehicle packed with explosives and crashed it directly into the building.
As a result, the structure was completely reduced to rubble within moments. The injured and deceased were quickly taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu, where medical treatment for the survivors is ongoing.
