The National Disaster Preparedness Authority of the Taliban government has reported that the death toll from recent severe snowfall in Afghanistan has risen to 61.
The authority’s spokesperson stated that over 110 people have been injured and hundreds of homes partially or completely destroyed due to heavy snow and rainfall. Mohammad Yousuf Hammad, spokesperson of the authority, warned that the number of casualties may increase as assessments continue.
The unusually heavy snowfall began on Wednesday, disrupting roads, electricity, and communication networks across the country. Afghanistan, already facing severe drought in recent years, is now confronting a new humanitarian crisis due to these unprecedented weather conditions.
