Web Desk: The Taliban’s chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Taliban administration would offer support and cooperation to Iran if the United States launched an attack, but only if Tehran formally requested assistance.
Mujahid made the remarks in an interview with Iran Radio’s Pashto service, outlining the Taliban government’s position on rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Mujahid said the Taliban government would extend sympathy and cooperation to Iran within its capacity. However, he stressed that any such move would depend on a direct request from Iranian authorities.
“If America attacks Iran, the Islamic Emirate will support and cooperate with Iran to the extent of its ability,” he said, adding that the administration would act only if Iran sought its help.
His comments signal a clear political alignment with Tehran at a time of heightened regional uncertainty.
Mujahid also claimed that Iran had emerged victorious in its recent confrontation with Israel. Furthermore, he expressed confidence that Iran would prevail in any potential conflict with the United States.
“Iran won the previous war with Israel, and if a war occurs between America and Iran, Iran will again be the winner,” he said.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East and reflects the Taliban administration’s evolving foreign policy stance since returning to power in 2021. While the group has sought regional engagement, its latest comments may draw attention from Washington and other global stakeholders.
The remarks underscore shifting alliances in the region, as Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers position themselves diplomatically alongside neighboring powers.
