Albanese Responds to Trump’s Criticism
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has described US President Donald Trump’s remarks about NATO’s role in Afghanistan as “unacceptable.” Trump had claimed that while NATO sent forces to support the US ,the majority of these troops stayed away from the front lines.
Honoring Fallen Soldiers
Albanese emphasized that such comments are painful for the families of the 47 Australian soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan. “These families deserve full respect for the sacrifices made,” he said.
Frontline Service of Australian Troops
The Prime Minister further highlighted that all 40,000 Australian troops who served in Afghanistan were actively engaged on the front lines, countering Trump’s assertion that non-American forces were largely absent from combat.
Maintaining International Respect
Analysts note that Albanese’s remarks underscore Australia’s commitment to honoring its military personnel and preserving the credibility of allied forces. The statement reinforces that coalition partners played a vital and active role in Afghanistan, despite claims that the burden fell disproportionately on US troops.
