Pakistan Endorses Civilian Nuclear Cooperation with Iran

Tehran- May 2, 2025: Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for civilian nuclear cooperation with Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated during his official visit to Tehran. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful regional progress through mutual respect and shared development goals.

The Prime Minister met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian at the Saadabad Palace. Upon arrival, PM Shehbaz was given a ceremonial guard of honour. He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir, and senior cabinet members.

Expanding Bilateral Relations

Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, and security. They expressed satisfaction with the progress on previous agreements and pledged to implement them effectively.

PM Shehbaz appreciated Iran’s concern for recent regional tensions and highlighted the need for unity among neighboring states. He also discussed past engagements with Iran’s foreign minister that laid groundwork for this renewed partnership.

The leaders addressed border security challenges and called for joint efforts to counter terrorism and smuggling. They stressed that regional peace depends on trust and active engagement.

They also reaffirmed their unwavering support for Palestine. Both condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and urged the global community to push for an immediate ceasefire.

Dialogue for Peace

On India, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s readiness for dialogue on all core issues, including Kashmir. He stated that peace can only be achieved through serious and meaningful talks. However, he added that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty.

President Pezeshkian welcomed Pakistan’s stance and emphasized that peaceful dialogue is key to regional stability. He praised the centuries-old cultural and religious ties between the two nations.

As the visit concluded, both sides projected a strong message of regional solidarity. At the heart of their discussions was a shared vision for peace, progress, and civilian nuclear cooperation. The leadership vowed to translate this vision into tangible actions through continued diplomatic engagement and strategic collaboration.
