Brussels– The European Union (EU) has announced the launch of the second phase of its Afghan Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme, pledging €10 million to support women’s livelihoods and entrepreneurship across Afghanistan.

The initiative aims to strengthen economic opportunities for Afghan women, enabling access to skills development, microfinance, and income-generating activities amid ongoing social and economic challenges in the country.

EU officials highlighted that the programme will focus on rural and underserved communities, providing vocational training, business support, and digital literacy initiatives to empower women economically and socially.

“Supporting Afghan women is essential for sustainable development and stability,” said an EU spokesperson. “This programme is a continuation of our commitment to foster resilience, economic independence, and leadership among women across Afghanistan.”

The second phase builds on previous efforts that reached thousands of women, helping them start small businesses, improve household incomes, and gain financial autonomy. EU authorities emphasized that these measures are part of a broader long-term strategy to ensure women’s active participation in Afghanistan’s social and economic life.
