Islamabad – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Wednesday that 12 separate parties have placed bids to purchase two new teams, a historic milestone at the league level.

This influx of interest is an outcome of a successful international roadshow, which confirms that the PSL Franchise Bidding process has entered the imaginations of investors well beyond the borders of Pakistan.

As the league expands to include eight teams by 2026, the excitement around the tournament is as high as ever before.

A Truly International Competition

The list of bidders tells how much the league has become popular all over the world. Interested parties have emerged in five countries, which include the United States, Australia, Canada, United Arab Emirates.

This mix of investors, including telecom giants to real estate groups, points to the commercial viability of the PSL Franchise Bidding cycle.

Even such long-term sponsors as Inverex Power Solution are moving to the plate, with hopes of becoming more than supporters and becoming team owners.

The Road to the Islamabad Convention Centre

The PCB has laid out a clear and transparent way ahead for every applicant. The findings of this preliminary stage will be released on December 27 after the first review.

The ones that meet the technical requirements will then proceed to a high stakes open competition.

This is the last phase of the PSL Franchise Bidding, which will take place on the 8th of January within the Islamabad Convention Centre.

Here, the two victorious teams will be determined, and they will be given an option of a list of short cities where they can select their home base, which includes places like Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, or industrial cities such as Sialkot and Faisalabad.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season

The expansion comes at a perfect time for fans and players alike. Switching to an eight-team format will provide more matches and more chances for local talent to play on a big stage.

To support this expansion, the 2026 season will be restructured into a 39-day schedule, which overlaps with the April-May period.

As the league prepares for its first major restructuring since 2018, the goal remains simple: to bring more joy to cricket lovers and ensure the long-term growth of Pakistan’s favorite sport.
