Peshawar | July 30, 2025 — Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, chaired a high-level meeting to directly assess and address the evolving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation. The meeting thoroughly reviewed the province’s recent peace and security challenges, especially in light of the recent terrorist attack in Bajaur. With rising concerns over recurring militant violence, the provincial leadership expressed strong dissatisfaction with the federal government’s existing counter-terrorism approach.
CM Gandapur Expresses Deep Concern Over Bajaur Attack
During the session, CM Ali Amin Gandapur openly condemned the deadly terrorist attack in Bajaur that claimed the lives of both military personnel and civilians. He emphasized that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation remains fragile and volatile. Expressing deep sorrow over the martyrdoms, the Chief Minister highlighted the urgent need for a change in strategy to restore public confidence.
“Multiple state guards and innocent citizens were martyred in this tragic attack. Their sacrifice must not go in vain,” said Gandapur. He underlined that the public’s growing despair stems from the rising civilian casualties during counter-terrorism operations. “When civilians die during such operations, it creates fear, frustration, and increasing mistrust between the people and state institutions,” he added.
In continuation, he reminded all stakeholders that the unity achieved during the recent All Parties Conference must be preserved. “The decisions taken during that conference still hold weight. The federal government must now act upon them with seriousness and urgency,” he asserted.
Misguided Policies Undermine State Sacrifices
Criticizing the state’s response mechanisms, CM Gandapur stated that flawed policies and biased decisions are diminishing the value of sacrifices made by security personnel. “These wrong approaches have distanced the people from state institutions. Consequently, our fight against terrorism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation is not yielding the desired results,” he said firmly.
He reiterated that both the civilians and state defenders are equally important to the province. “Our protectors who embrace martyrdom for this country deserve the utmost respect. However, when their sacrifices are not acknowledged due to poor policies, we collectively fail,” he stated. Gandapur urged federal authorities to re-evaluate these policies and make the necessary course corrections.
Moreover, he criticized unilateral decision-making and stressed the need for a more people-centric and inclusive approach. “Our objective is to end terrorism completely, but we must also address the genuine concerns of the people living across KP for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation. Without their trust and support, no strategy can succeed,” he said.
CM Bans Unilateral Security Restrictions Without Approval
In a significant move, Chief Minister Gandapur issued a directive to all Deputy Commissioners across the province. He categorically stated that no one would impose curfews or invoke Section 144 without prior approval from the Home Department. This decision aims to ensure transparency and prevent arbitrary enforcement of restrictions on the public.
“Such restrictions, when imposed without consultation, only further alienate the people and worsen the already tense Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation,” Gandapur explained. By taking this stand, the Chief Minister intends to ensure that all decisions consider the public interest and avoid unnecessary disruptions in daily life.
As a transition to stronger provincial autonomy, Gandapur reaffirmed his commitment to standing with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We have always prioritized our people’s welfare and will go to any extent to protect their rights,” he added.
The Way Forward
The meeting concluded with a strong call for action directed at the federal government. CM Gandapur called for enhanced cooperation, honest evaluation of counter-terrorism strategies, and a comprehensive review of state policies that have thus far failed to bring lasting peace.
The Chief Minister stressed that a sustainable solution to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation requires transparency, collaboration, and most importantly, sensitivity to public sentiment. “Only by uniting all segments of society and ensuring effective communication between the people and state institutions can we hope to overcome the menace of terrorism once and for all,” he concluded.
With security concerns mounting and public patience wearing thin, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s leadership is clearly signaling that passive strategies are no longer acceptable. Due to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa security situation, province now awaits decisive and collaborative action to stabilize its future.
