Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans was sold on Monday to Walee Technologies for a record Rs2.45 billion ahead of the tournament’s 11th edition.
The winning bid was made at an auction held in Lahore and includes the annual fee to retain ownership of the team for the next 10 years.
Announcing the purchase at the ceremony, Walee Technologies’ chief executive officer Ahsan Tahir surprised attendees by indicating a possible rebranding of the team.
“Are you ready for a surprise? We will be going for Rawalpindi,” he said, hinting at a change in the franchise’s name and identity.
Furthermore, speaking at the event, Najam Sethi said he was delighted to witness the franchise’s sale, calling it the fulfilment of a long-held dream. He termed the winning bid a “great moment for Pakistan cricket” and hinted that further positive developments beyond the PSL could be announced in the coming days.
Later, speaking to the media, Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged that the future of the Multan Sultans brand would need careful consideration.

He said it would not be fair to insist on retaining the existing name when a new owner was paying such a large amount. However, he added that Multan Sultans remained close to his heart and a suitable solution would be found.
Walee Technologies, which has previously acquired PSL livestreaming rights, operates globally across media, finance and technology sectors.
The franchise, which won its maiden PSL title in 2021 became ownerless last year after the PCB did not renew its agreement with Ali Khan Tareen prompting the board to take temporary control before the auction.
