Islamabad – On August 14, Pakistan observed its 78th Independence Day with a show of national pride, featuring a mix of solemn ceremonies, public celebrations, and a recommitment to a prosperous future.
The celebration began at midnight with a series of significant events and will continue throughout the day, featuring flag-hoisting ceremonies, formal tributes, and an outpouring of nationalistic pride among the nation’s citizens.
On the eve of August 13, the countrywide celebration started with a legendary showcase of national pride, the Marka-I-Haq. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the ceremony as guests of honour. At midnight, the skies across key cities were lit up with blistering fireworks to mark the beginning of the historic day.
The notable structures, such as the Parliament House in Islamabad or the grand Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, were illuminated in the national colors green and white. Huge numbers of people went to these monuments, sharing a common identity and pride.
Flag-Hoisting Ceremonies Across Country
The official ceremonies were the essence of the morning observances. In Islamabad, the hoisting of the flag in the Presidency was the main event of the day.
In his address, the President saluted the sacrifices of founding fathers such as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
