Pakistan Government Affirms Full Commitment to Imran Khan’s Healthcare

February 17, 2026

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized that the government has fulfilled its constitutional and humanitarian responsibilities regarding the health of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He explained that relevant institutions have been given clear instructions to ensure there are no obstacles in medical treatment or examinations. Doctors and medical specialists have already been granted access, and if party leadership wishes, its representatives may also attend the examination process. However, Naqvi noted that at times the procedures were disrupted due to internal decisions and attitudes within the party itself.

Naqvi stressed that providing healthcare to prisoners is the responsibility of the state, and the government is not backing away from this duty. He confirmed that all steps taken for Imran Khan’s treatment have been in line with rules and regulations, and if further check-ups or medical reviews are required, they will be arranged.

Rejecting Allegations of Negligence and Politicization

The Interior Minister dismissed claims of negligence in handling Imran Khan’s health, insisting that politicizing the matter or spreading unverified information is inappropriate. He explained that such statements not only create anxiety among the public but also distort the facts. Naqvi called for a responsible approach that respects humanitarian considerations and legal obligations, ensuring transparency and providing citizens with accurate information.

Background

These remarks come amid concerns raised by some political groups about whether Imran Khan is receiving adequate medical care. Supporters have alleged shortcomings in this regard, while the government maintains that all procedures are being carried out according to regulations and that it remains committed to its duty toward prisoners. Naqvi’s statements aim to clarify the government’s position and reassure the public that responsibility has not been neglected and that proper healthcare is being provided.
