ISLAMABAD- APRIL,2-Pakistan has issued a firm response to criticism from some Arab commentators regarding its role as a mediator in efforts to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran.
The criticism, raised by certain Arab journalists, officials, and strategic analysts, argues that a country cannot act as both an ally and a neutral mediator at the same time. Some have suggested that Pakistan, due to its longstanding ties with Arab states, should take a clear side instead of maintaining neutrality.
Pakistani officials and analysts have rejected this position, warning against reducing a complex geopolitical situation to a simplistic “with us or against us” approach. They stressed that such thinking ignores the broader and long-term consequences of continued conflict.
According to assessments cited in the response, some regional actors appear reluctant to see an early end to the war and may be preparing to align more closely with the United States and Israel. Observers say this has led to expectations that Pakistan should also support military action rather than pursue diplomacy.
Experts pointed out that extensive military operations have already caused significant destruction in Iran, targeting key infrastructure, military assets, and strategic facilities. In this context, they questioned what further escalation would achieve and whether it would meaningfully change the outcome.
They also highlighted the lack of a clear war termination strategy among those advocating continued conflict, emphasizing that ending a war responsibly is as critical as conducting it. Without a defined endgame, regional instability could persist for generations.
Pakistan has urged regional stakeholders to consider the long-term implications of their actions, noting that global powers may eventually shift focus elsewhere, leaving regional countries to deal with the aftermath. Officials stressed that coexistence, stability, and political dialogue must remain the priority.
Drawing on its own experience with conflict, Pakistan presented itself as a country advocating for a balanced and durable solution. It emphasized that while wars may end militarily, lasting peace depends on avoiding humiliation and ensuring conditions for reconciliation.
Pakistan reiterated that a sustainable political solution is essential to prevent prolonged instability and further escalation in the region.
