Pakistan on Thursday said it is closely watching the situation in Iran and hopes that peace and stability will prevail in the neighboring country.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan attaches great importance to Iran as a neighbour, a friend, and an important member of the international community.
The spokesperson said Pakistan wants to see a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Iran and believes that the Iranian nation has the wisdom and strength to overcome current challenges.
He said the people of Pakistan share deep historical, cultural, and religious ties with the people of Iran.
He noted that the recent protests in Iran were triggered by economic difficulties, which were made worse by international sanctions.
He said Pakistan hopes that the livelihood and financial support measures announced by the Iranian government for traders and the public will help reduce people’s hardships.
The spokesperson said a stable Iran is in Pakistan’s interest and added that Pakistan has full confidence in the Iranian leadership and people to handle the situation.
He also reminded Pakistani citizens to follow the travel advisory and exercise caution. He said Pakistan’s embassy in Tehran is working to take care of Pakistanis in Iran.
He confirmed that dozens of Pakistani students have already returned safely and more updates will be shared after fresh figures are received.
