Pakistan–UAE economic diplomacy has entered a decisive and forward-looking phase, with both sides reaching the final stage of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The development signals an imminent formalization of a landmark deal expected to significantly expand bilateral trade, investment, and long-term economic cooperation.
The announcement was made by Hammad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Pakistan, while addressing the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He noted that the current trade volume of around $8–10 billion does not reflect the true depth of Pakistan–UAE relations, adding that both governments are determined to double this figure in the near term.
Officials on both sides view the near-completion of CEPA talks as a strategic shift from traditional trade engagement to a comprehensive growth partnership.
The agreement is designed to remove business barriers, strengthen supply chains, and enhance investor confidence while opening new avenues in infrastructure, ports, aviation, agriculture, minerals, railways and the digital economy.
The ambassador highlighted the UAE’s rapid transition towards an AI-driven and fully digitized governance model, with nearly all government services now available online.
He said both countries are working to streamline visa and mobility processes through digital systems, a step expected to facilitate business travel and workforce exchange. Discussions are also underway with the Punjab Skilled Labor Authority to improve cooperation in skilled labor mobility, addressing the evolving needs of Gulf markets.
Beyond trade, CEPA underscores Pakistan’s growing relevance as a regional economic connector linking Gulf economies with South and Central Asia.
Enhanced alignment between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi is expected to unlock opportunities in energy, logistics, and infrastructure connectivity, positioning Pakistan as a stable and opportunity-rich destination for long-term strategic investment.
The agreement is widely seen as a win-win framework that reflects mutual confidence and strategic trust, reinforcing Pakistan–UAE relations at a time when regional economic integration is becoming increasingly important.
