The United Kingdom has witnessed a major development concerning the royal family, as former Prince Andrew—now officially known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—was taken into custody by police. According to British media, Thames Valley Police confirmed in a statement issued on February 19 that a man over sixty years of age had been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, and searches were carried out at various sites in Norfolk and Berkshire.
This move comes in the context of recently released documents in the United States related to investigations into the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Police are examining whether the former prince may have shared classified government information with Epstein at any point. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has previously denied any wrongdoing and expressed regret over his friendship with Epstein, but has not issued an immediate response to the latest development.
Buckingham Palace had announced last year that he was stripped of royal titles, honors, and official status. He is no longer referred to as “Prince,” and has left the Royal Lodge residence to move into a private home on the Sandringham estate, after having already been removed from royal duties.
Recent files released by the U.S. Department of Justice include photos and claims in which his name appears. Virginia, one of Epstein’s accusers, had previously alleged that she was sent to Andrew while underage through Epstein. That case was settled out of court in 2022, with Andrew making no legal admission of liability.
Political and legal experts note that this marks the first time in modern British history that a senior royal figure has been formally arrested under such suspicions. King Charles III expressed “deep concern” over the news in a statement, stressing that the matter will now proceed through a full, fair, and legal process.

Meanwhile, no official source has yet confirmed the validity of certain claims circulating on social media regarding other international figures. Authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing and final results will only be announced once judicial and investigative procedures are complete.
