The Russian ambassador has presented his official documents of his nomination to the Afghan Interim Foreign Minister, Ameer Khan Muttaqi, at the Foreign Ministry building a few days ago, which brought mixed feelings to the international community.
Russia became the first country to accept Emirate-e-Islami as the legitimate government. It also received the Afghan ambassador and handed over the embassy in Moscow. The Afghan Interim Government termed and viewed it as a “bold decision.”
The Chinese government, on the other hand, has recognised the Emirate-e-Islami government as a de-facto regime, accepted the credentials of the Afghan ambassador in Beijing, and provided all facilities to the Afghan refugees forced to expel from Iran.
The Russian government knew the fact that the world has to live with the Taliban as a legitimate government representing the Afghan soil. Russia needs quiet borders with Afghanistan, provides military support to Emirate-e-Islami to fight against ISKP, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, while the Chinese also need a secured border.
Experts on the subject are of the opinion that energy-striving South Asia and Afghanistan need new sources of energy, while Russia needs new markets for its gas, energy, and oil.
“The Russian adversity on its borders with the EU, war with Ukraine, and larger consumers of the Russian gas in the EU has been at jeopardy due to worsening diplomatic situation with the US and EU. So South Asia would be the new energy market,” Ex-Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Mukhtyar of the Political Science Department told HTN over the phone.
Besides that, the overdue power projects, like the “CASA-1000” electricity project connecting Central Asia to South Asia, would give breathing space to Afghan and Pakistani energy markets.
Post the Russian recognition blessings, it would also pave way and means to more neighbouring and some of the Gulf states.
But on the other hand, Russian recognition could have a negative impact on the Emirate-e-Islami government and its ties with the US alongside its allies.
The financial aids from the US government in multiple heads would sooner be halted. Proxies against Emirate-e-Islami may rise again, which were earlier halted due to US pressure on global powers — such as the rise of the Northern Alliance, etc.
Political scientists are of the view that Russia has never won against the US in distant conflicts — like in Syria, Yemen, Iran in recent days, and also in Vietnam in the past, and Afghanistan in previous episodes.
If the US and Russia lock horns in Afghanistan, more devastation would result, and more miseries would await.
