Analysts and diplomatic sources have called Shahbaz Gill’s recent statements about Pakistan’s diplomatic relations with Gulf countries misleading and baseless. On social media, he claimed that Iran refused negotiations in Pakistan because it was allegedly a “trap.” However, experts have clarified that this claim was wrongly attributed to well-known scholar Vali Nasr.
According to analysts, Nasr’s interview contained no remarks regarding Pakistan. He only spoke about Iran’s distrust toward the United States, particularly in the context of the US withdrawing from the previous nuclear deal. This shows that the claim linking Nasr to Shahbaz Gill’s statement is inaccurate.
Diplomatic sources further confirmed that Iran’s Foreign Minister denied any objection to holding talks in Pakistan. The minister explained that Iran was not refusing dialogue, but it was not ready to discuss US proposals at that time.
Experts emphasize that this clarification proves the allegation of a supposed conspiracy is unfounded. They warn that spreading such misinformation not only misleads the public but also risks harming Pakistan’s diplomatic relationships.
They further stressed that responsible commentary on sensitive regional matters should rely on verified facts rather than unverified claims or political point-scoring. Accurate information is critical to maintaining trust and stability in Pakistan’s foreign relations.
