ISLAMABAD — The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene today (Thursday) in Islamabad to sight the moon of Eid ul Fitr, signaling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Committee members will review testimonies of moon sightings reported from across the country before announcing whether the Shawwal crescent has been observed. If confirmed, Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated in Pakistan accordingly.

Astronomical experts indicate that the first Shawwal is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, following a complete 30-day Ramadan. The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) noted that the chances of sighting the Shawwal crescent on the evening of March 19 are low. “The new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to be born on March 19, 2026, at 06:23 PST,” Suparco stated.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s announcement will provide guidance to millions of Pakistanis preparing for Eid prayers, family gatherings, and festive celebrations across the country.
