Sindh Cabinet Clears Rs33.7bn Emergency Upgrade Plan
The Sindh cabinet on Tuesday approved a Rs33.7 billion plan to strengthen firefighting and emergency response services across the province. The package includes a new early warning public alert system, modern rescue equipment, and the reorganisation of emergency services to ensure faster response during crises.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Officials said the project will be implemented over three years and will cover equipment purchases, infrastructure development, and human resources. The aim is to improve the province’s ability to respond to fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
As part of the plan, Sindh will acquire 100 fire trucks, 35 water bowsers, 50 all-terrain fire vehicles, and specialised snorkels. The province will also purchase eight firefighting drones and 12 multi-purpose drones. In addition, a technology-based public alert system will be introduced to quickly notify people during emergencies.
Rescue Reforms, Labour Rules and Other Key Decisions
Meanwhile, the cabinet approved a complete overhaul of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122. A high-level committee, including the home and local government ministers, has been formed to oversee the reorganisation. The goal is better coordination and quicker action during emergencies.
At the same time, the cabinet approved the Sindh Women Agricultural Workers Rules, 2026. These rules aim to protect women working in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries. They include equal wages, fixed working hours, maternity benefits, healthcare access, protection from harassment, and written contracts. A committee has been formed to review the draft before final approval.
In another move, the cabinet cleared amendments to industrial laws to support digital registration of factories and businesses. Under the new system, factory owners will submit notices online, while shops will receive a temporary certificate immediately after applying. These steps are meant to make it easier to do business in the province.
The cabinet also confirmed financial decisions worth Rs23.7 billion, including Rs7 billion in compensation for traders affected by the Gul Plaza fire. In addition, appointments were approved for power regulatory bodies, along with a city-twinning agreement between Karachi and Almaty.
Overall, the meeting focused on public safety, worker protection, business reforms, and better governance across Sindh.
