Islamabad – In a historic Islamabad court ruling, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were sentenced to 17 years of incarceration.

The ruling, given on December 20, 2025, comes after the end of the Toshakhana II Case, which focused on claims of high-value gifts accepted by foreign dignitaries.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 million each on the couple.

Sentencing proceeded at Adiala Jail, with Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand pronouncing the verdict. As per jail officials, they were both present in the courtroom to hear the decision.

The case that was originally conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and later referred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), specifically concerned with the processing of a luxury jewelry set.

The case of this Toshakhana II Case has been keenly followed all over the country, considering that the topmost leadership of the former government is involved.

The Jewellery at the Centre of the Case

The main claim is a Bulgari jewelry set that was presented by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman when the couple visited Saudi Arabia in 2021.

The set, consisting of a necklace, earrings, a bracelet, and a ring with rare pink diamonds and costly pearls, was supposedly never deposited in the state gift repository.

The testimony provided to the court by the Foreign Office and Pakistani embassy in Saudi Arabia showed that although the set cost the couple Rs 5.8 million, it could fetch a higher price of Rs 71.5 million.

The court held that the defendants had misused their authority by failing to report the true value of the set and giving only a portion of it to retain it. This particular discovery formed the basis of the Toshakhana II Case because it demonstrated a ten-million-rupee gap between the stated price and the official international price.

A Long Legal Journey

This follows an indictment that occurred precisely a year ago, in December 2024. Though the couple had earlier been acquitted in a similar case, the fresh evidence introduced by the FIA resulted in this conviction.

They were convicted of criminal breach of trust under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The effect of the news in the national political arena is far-reaching as the news spreads.

The legal teams representing the former Prime Minister are likely to start the appeals process now that the 17-year sentence and massive fines have been passed, and this high-profile story is bound to stay in public consciousness in the foreseeable future.
