LAHORE, May 25, 2025 – Authorities shifted former Foreign Minister and senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) from Kot Lakhpat Jail on Saturday morning after he reported severe chest pain. His lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar, confirmed that Qureshi began feeling discomfort shortly after Fajr prayers.

Jail doctors examined him immediately but failed to ease his symptoms. Rescue 1122 paramedics responded to the call and transported him to PIC for specialized treatment. Doctors at the hospital promptly initiated diagnostic tests to assess his cardiac health. Medical staff informed his family and continued to monitor his condition closely.

This development marks a critical Shah Mehmood Qureshi health update, highlighting concerns over his well-being amid ongoing legal proceedings.

Authorities Keep Qureshi in Custody Since August 2023

Police arrested Qureshi in August 2023 and placed him in custody under charges linked to the May 9, 2023 riots. Authorities accused him of coordinating attacks on public institutions following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In July 2024, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) indicted him for involvement in an attack on the Shadman police station. Jail officials moved him from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore to simplify transportation for court hearings.

Courts Indict Qureshi in Multiple Riot Cases

In November 2023, another ATC in Lahore indicted Qureshi and other senior PTI members in additional riot-related cases. Qureshi rejected all accusations and pleaded not guilty, repeatedly claiming political motivation behind the cases.

PTI Legal Team Awaits Medical Test Results

PTI lawyers and party officials closely followed the medical developments. They plan to finalize legal strategies based on Qureshi’s health assessment. The party expressed concern over his condition and highlighted the emotional toll of his incarceration.

By Saturday evening, doctors at PIC continued monitoring Qureshi’s status and had yet to release a formal diagnosis. The Shah Mehmood Qureshi health update confirmed that specialists were working to stabilize his condition while awaiting test results. Legal teams and family members expect further updates in the coming hours.
