Islamabad, Sunday – Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, firmly stated that Pakistan seeks peace – not violence, emphasizing the country’s enduring commitment to regional stability. He made these remarks in an exclusive interview with RT Arabic following a recent ceasefire agreement with India.
Pakistan Prioritizes Peace Over Hostility
“We are not a violent nation. We are a serious nation, and our first priority is peace,” said Gen Chaudhry. His statement came after a tense period of cross-border hostilities that concluded with both countries agreeing to halt further military escalation. He said “First Priority is Peace” of Pakistan.
India Initiated Ceasefire Through Diplomatic Channels
Gen Chaudhry revealed that India’s defence ministry initiated the ceasefire via diplomatic channels, potentially with U.S. mediation. He acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic corps for their effective engagement with the international community, which played a crucial role in diffusing tensions.
Pakistan Responded Decisively to Indian Strikes
Recalling the confrontation between May 6 and 10, Gen Chaudhry detailed how Pakistan responded firmly to Indian airstrikes that killed over 30 civilians. In response, the Pakistan Air Force downed five Indian fighter jets and launched targeted strikes on military installations during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He stressed that Pakistan deliberately avoided civilian targets, displaying strategic restraint even under direct provocation.
He criticized India for rejecting Pakistan’s proposal for a neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack. Instead of seeking cooperation, India responded with missile attacks that further endangered civilian lives. “India is constructing a false narrative while simultaneously backing terrorism inside Pakistan,” Gen Chaudhry stated.
The DG ISPR assured the public of the military’s steadfast commitment to protecting national sovereignty. He underscored that Pakistan acts with responsibility, not aggression, and will continue to respond with wisdom and strength.
