The Afghan Freedom Front (AFF) strongly condemned the Taliban for violently suppressing public protests and desecrating the bodies of resistance fighters in northern Afghanistan. In a statement issued on January 5, 2026, AFF reported that the Taliban opened direct fire and used severe violence against civilians protesting illegal, unregulated, and exploitative mining in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.

The statement also noted that during the same period, Taliban forces desecrated the body of a national resistance fighter in Nahreen district, Baghlan province, violating human dignity, moral values, and the rules of war. AFF said these actions expose the Taliban’s moral depravity, disregard for human values, and the complete failure of their so-called government in northern Afghanistan.

Public Awareness and Resistance Against Resource Looting Intensifies

AFF highlighted that public awareness and resistance against natural resource plundering are growing rapidly in northern Afghanistan, placing the Taliban under intense pressure. Violence against protesters and the desecration of martyrs demonstrate the Taliban’s panic in the face of rising public opposition, frustration, and anger.

The statement condemned the shooting at Commander Zafar’s body in Baghlan, calling it cowardly, inhumane, and barbaric. AFF described this act as a clear sign of Taliban militia weakness, despair, and fear of popular uprising. The Front declared that bringing the perpetrators of these crimes to justice is their national, religious, and human duty, and that those who loot public resources will face severe consequences.

AFF also stated that the era of Taliban and affiliated resource-looting groups in northern Afghanistan has ended. Finally, the Front expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of Commander Zafar, the citizens killed in recent protests, and the Afghan people.
