PCB Focuses on Stability in Test Team Leadership
Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to continue with Shan Masood as the Test team captain, aiming to maintain stability in the longer format of the game. The decision comes as part of a broader strategy to build consistency in team performance and leadership.
Meanwhile, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to take charge as the new head coach of the Test side. His appointment is expected to be officially announced after the schedule of the upcoming Bangladesh series is confirmed.
At the same time, Sarfaraz is already involved in the national selection setup, which reflects the board’s trust in his experience and understanding of the game. Reports suggest he will replace Azhar Mahmood in this role.
In addition, officials believe that keeping Shan Masood as captain will help maintain continuity within the team, especially as Pakistan prepares for a busy Test calendar.
NCA Red Ball Camp Prepares Players for Upcoming Series
Currently, a red ball training camp is underway at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. The camp is being supervised by Sarfaraz Ahmed along with other national coaches, focusing on improving players’ skills in the longer format.
Moreover, young talent like opening batter Azaan Owais has also been part of the camp. He has been in strong domestic form over the last two seasons, scoring heavily in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and other first class competitions.
In addition, Azaan highlighted that training at the NCA has been a valuable learning experience. He said that playing in different conditions, including overseas tours, has helped improve his confidence and game awareness.
Looking ahead, Pakistan is preparing for a packed Test schedule against Bangladesh, West Indies, and England. The board is also working with a stable coaching structure, as Mike Hesson continues to lead the white ball team.
