Pakistan has warned at the United Nations that rising regional tensions, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, pose a serious threat to global peace, security, and economic stability.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said in a statement shared on social media that the current regional situation demands urgent attention from the international community, as it carries far-reaching implications for global stability.

Concerns Over the Strait of Hormuz

Ambassador Ahmad specifically highlighted the significance of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that ongoing tensions in the strategic waterway are negatively affecting countries around the world. He stressed that Pakistan is among the states directly impacted by instability in the region, facing both economic and strategic consequences due to disruptions in maritime security.

Support for Regional Sovereignty

Reaffirming Pakistan’s principled position, the envoy said that Islamabad remains firmly committed to respecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all brotherly countries in the region. He expressed full solidarity with regional states and cautioned that undermining any country’s independence—internally or externally—could seriously endanger regional peace.

Emphasis on International Law and Dialogue

Pakistan reiterated its consistent call for adherence to international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue. Ambassador Ahmad noted that Pakistan has always supported diplomatic engagement and global order based on cooperation, warning that escalation and confrontation would only jeopardize the global economy and human security.
