The situation in the Middle East has sharply escalated after Iranian forces allegedly launched drone and missile attacks on a US naval fleet passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces not only intercepted and neutralized the incoming threats but also carried out retaliatory strikes on military sites inside Iran from where the attacks were reportedly launched.
Details of the Iranian Attack
US officials stated that the incident took place on 7 May while the American naval group was transiting international waters en route to the Gulf of Oman.
Iranian forces allegedly targeted US naval vessels including USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason using missiles, drones, and small boats. However, US defence systems reportedly intercepted and destroyed all incoming threats, with no damage reported to American assets.

US Retaliatory Action
CENTCOM confirmed that US forces responded by striking Iranian military facilities allegedly involved in planning and executing the attacks.
The targeted sites reportedly included missile and drone launch facilities, command and control centers, and intelligence and surveillance installations.
The United States emphasized that the operation was conducted in self-defence to ensure the protection of its forces and assets.
Statement on De-escalation
Despite the retaliatory strikes, US Central Command stated that Washington does not seek further escalation in the region.
However, it also warned that US forces remain fully prepared to respond to any future threats and will act decisively to protect personnel and military assets.
