Islamabad: The globally active pro war lobby and “Drop Site” network has once again become active in an attempt to sabotage Pakistan’s sincere mediation and diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran. In this regard, the lengthy article recently published by the American media outlet “Drop Site” is being viewed as the latest episode in a series of organized diplomatic attacks and toxic propaganda against Pakistan. According to defence and diplomatic experts, the article is not neutral analysis but rather high quality propaganda presented under the guise of journalism in an effort to make Pakistan’s mediation role controversial and once again push the Middle East toward the horrors of war.
The sole objective of this malicious campaign is to derail the negotiation process between the United States and Iran and pressure US President Donald Trump into relaunching “Operation Epic Fury.” It is considered an open secret that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporting lobby fear any peace agreement that preserves the current Iranian state structure. This is precisely why fabricated stories are continuously being created to undermine Pakistan’s mediation efforts, because if Pakistan’s efforts fail, the outbreak of war in the region would become almost inevitable.
Contradictions and Proof of Successful Mediation
This lengthy “Drop Site” article is fundamentally filled with severe contradictions, fabricated assumptions, and openly misleading information. In one section, the writer refers to an alleged tweet by an Iranian national security spokesperson claiming that Pakistan is not a suitable mediator because it always keeps Trump’s interests in mind. Yet later in the same article, it is stated that pro Israel circles in the United States are pressuring the Trump administration to remove Pakistan as a mediator.
Legal and diplomatic experts say that this very contradiction is actually the strongest proof of Pakistan’s neutrality and successful mediation. If both sides, including extremist elements in the United States and Iran, feel that Pakistan is not taking their preferred side, then that is the greatest quality of a genuine and sincere mediator working impartially for peace. The pro Israel lobby fears this neutrality because, at present, there is no other effective alternative mediation channel in the world besides Pakistan.
Blind Use of PTI Narrative and Ignoring Political Realities
A detailed review of the article shows that “Drop Site” used allegations made by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and Imran Khan against the country’s military leadership without verifying facts or addressing obvious contradictions. The language used in the article, such as “engineering the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2022,” creates the impression that the article was written not by an independent journalist but by a PTI press official.
The writer deliberately ignored the political realities of 2022 that unfolded before the entire world. Imran Khan’s government was a highly fragile coalition administration dependent on the support of four smaller parties. From the very beginning, major PDM parties including PPP, PML N, and JUI F strongly opposed the government. In the first year itself, Maulana Fazlur Rehman launched the Azadi March toward Islamabad, while Maryam Nawaz held major rallies across the country. Eventually, coalition partners withdrew their support from the government. It was the first time in Pakistan’s history that a prime minister was removed through a constitutional and fully democratic vote of no confidence. However, the former prime minister later described his political failure as an “American conspiracy,” “London Plan,” and “establishment conspiracy.”
Clear Contradictions in Timelines Regarding Military Leadership
While targeting the country’s military leadership, especially the Army Chief, the article also ignored basic contradictions in dates and timelines. The claim that he allegedly planned Imran Khan’s removal in London alongside Nawaz Sharif is completely irrational. Imran Khan was removed through a vote of no confidence on April 9, 2022, whereas the current Army Chief was appointed in the final week of November 2022. Before becoming Army Chief, he served as Quartermaster General of the army, and in that role he neither possessed the authority nor the resources to orchestrate any conspiracy against an elected government.
Similarly, the article made the absurd claim that “within months” of assuming office, the Army Chief had Imran Khan imprisoned. In reality, Imran Khan was legally jailed in August 2023 after being convicted and sentenced by Islamabad’s accountability court in the Toshakhana corruption case. Assigning judicial decisions to military leadership represents the height of journalistic dishonesty.
Lack of Understanding of Pakistan’s Governance and Foreign Policy
The “Drop Site” article also demonstrates a lack of basic understanding of Pakistan’s state structure by claiming that the current Army Chief was previously removed from the post of DG ISI because he disagreed with Imran Khan on relations with Iran. Pakistan’s military and security system does not function according to the personal wishes of any one individual. The country’s establishment follows a coordinated and unified policy on all strategic and security matters, with final approval granted by the serving Army Chief at the time, General Bajwa. It is highly implausible that any DG ISI could adopt an independent or parallel position regarding Iran or any other country without the approval of the Army Chief.
Pakistan’s history shows that due to economic challenges and security threats posed by its traditional rival India, every civilian and national government has consistently sought close and strong relations with the United States. “Drop Site” attempted to portray this traditional and necessary foreign policy as a “secret and dangerous alliance,” which critics describe as absurd. Pakistan’s long standing strategy has been to maintain balanced relations with both China and the United States simultaneously, without sacrificing one relationship for the other. Allegations that the current government deliberately slowed down CPEC are also described as fabricated, speculative, and detached from reality.
Toxic and Baseless Propaganda Regarding the Nuclear Program
The most dangerous and malicious aspect of the article is the attempt to raise questions regarding Pakistan’s strategic assets and nuclear program. The article attempts to create the false impression that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons are directly controlled by the Army Chief without any checks and balances.
The reality is entirely the opposite. Pakistan’s nuclear command and control structure is regarded as one of the safest and most foolproof systems in the world. Oversight of the country’s nuclear assets is carried out by the National Command Authority, chaired by the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan. In addition, operational command and control of strategic assets is managed through the National Strategic Command under a four star general. In the presence of such a coordinated and multilayered command structure, suggesting that these assets are dependent on a single individual is nothing more than an attempt to spread fear and sensationalism internationally against Pakistan.
Overall, the “Drop Site” article is described by analysts as a mixture of contradictions relating to facts, history, logistics, and security systems, aimed solely at sabotaging peace efforts in the Middle East, damaging Pakistan’s global image, and protecting the interests of the pro war lobby.
