Ali Nazary, head of foreign relations for Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front (NRF), has warned that Afghanistan has become a major security threat under the Taliban. He spoke to Yalda Hakim about the current situation in Afghanistan ,“Since 2021, a criminal and terrorist group has hijacked Afghanistan,” Nazary said. “The country now faces political, humanitarian, economic, and security crises that are worsening under Taliban rule.”
He described Afghanistan as a hub for regional and international terrorist groups. “The country has become a haven for 21 terrorist organizations operating freely. This poses a threat not just to the region but to global security,” he added.
A Country in Anarchy and Chaos
Nazary explained that the Taliban’s governance has been marked by incompetence and lawlessness. “The past years show complete failure in managing the country. There is no law and order. Essentially, Afghanistan is in a state of anarchy,” he said.
Nazary also highlighted the broader dangers posed by Afghanistan’s situation. “The ongoing crises and the presence of terrorist groups inside Afghanistan have serious implications for regional and global security,” he said. He described the situation as tiring and complicated, with multiple crises layered on top of each other.
Resistance as the Only Path Forward
When asked by Yalda Hakim why Afghans have not protested the Taliban like Iranians oppose their government, Ali Nazary explained that the situations in the two countries are different. Historically, populations may not rise immediately against oppressors within a short time span.
He added that the National Resistance Front has been steadily expanding over the past years. “The growth of resistance over the past years proves that opposing the terrorist groups controlling the country is the only solution,” he emphasized.
According to Nazary, the expansion of the NRF is a sign of hope and a clear message to the Taliban. “The National Resistance Front continues to grow and strengthen. Our work shows that the liberation of Afghanistan from terrorist control is the only solution to restore law, order, and stability,” he said.
He concluded by stressing the need for the international community to recognize the threat posed by Afghanistan under the Taliban. “Without a clear resistance and continued pressure, the country will remain a hub for terrorism, threatening its neighbors and the world,” he warned.
