Fighters from the National Resistance Front carried out a targeted attack in northern Afghanistan on Saturday evening, killing three Taliban members, including a local commander, according to a statement released by the group. The operation took place around 7 pm near Kunduz Airport in the Kabul Port area of Kunduz city.

According to the National Resistance Front, the attack targeted a Taliban patrol vehicle that was moving through the area during night patrols. The group said its fighters struck the vehicle with precision, killing three Taliban members on the spot and injuring two others. No casualties were reported among NRF fighters or civilians.

Meanwhile, residents in nearby areas reported hearing gunfire at the time of the attack, though daily life reportedly returned to normal shortly afterward. Local Taliban units were seen increasing patrols following the incident, but no official Taliban statement has been issued so far.

Targeted Operation Near Kunduz Airport

According to NRF sources, the vehicle was carrying a Taliban commander responsible for overseeing patrols in the area. The operation was planned in advance and focused only on the intended target. The location near the airport is considered sensitive, as it often sees increased Taliban movement during evening hours.

At the same time, the NRF stressed that the attack was carried out carefully to avoid civilian harm. The group said the absence of civilian casualties shows its focus on limited and planned operations rather than large scale violence. Witnesses in the area also said there were no reports of damage to nearby homes or shops.

Resistance Group Signals Continued Pressure

In its statement, the NRF said it will continue what it described as targeted actions against the Taliban across different regions of the country & Its aim is to challenge Taliban control and keep pressure on its security presence, especially in northern provinces.

Meanwhile, the Taliban have faced growing security challenges in several areas, including Kunduz, where attacks on patrols and checkpoints have increased in recent months. Analysts say such incidents highlight ongoing instability and the difficulty of maintaining control in contested areas.

Finally, the NRF said it remains committed to its campaign and claimed that similar operations are being planned elsewhere. As tensions continue, observers warn that clashes between resistance groups and the Taliban could further affect security in northern Afghanistan.
