Shahbaz Gill Backlash

A recent video by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Shahbaz Gill has triggered a fresh controversy on social media, with critics accusing him of knowingly promoting an Indian narrative against national security without proper verification. Critics are questioning the extent to which Shahbaz Gill is willing to go with an anti-state agenda, amplifying Indian claims that, according to them, hold little to no credibility even within Indian media itself.

In his video, Shahbaz Gill claimed that a person named Hamza Burhan was targeted in Muzaffarabad by Indian intelligence after entering Pakistan, citing what he described as a credible British newspaper, The Guardian. However, fact-checking has revealed that the report was not from any British publication but rather from an Indian newspaper, Sunday Guardian. It is further noted that Gill not only misattributed the source but also incorrectly named the deceased, whose actual name was Hamza Ahmed Dar, not Hamza Burhan.

Political and public circles argue that Shahbaz Gill also deliberately omitted the fact that the actual perpetrator in the case has already been arrested by law enforcement agencies, and investigations are currently underway. Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies, according to officials, have a strong record of ensuring that perpetrators of serious crimes are swiftly identified and brought to justice. In the majority of past terrorism-related or major criminal cases, law enforcement has successfully apprehended suspects, a fact critics say Gill ignored.

Social media observers claim that Shahbaz Gill is not merely mistaken but driven by financial incentives and the pursuit of online views, which has allegedly distanced him from national interests. They point to the presence of Indian users’ positive comments on his accounts as evidence that promoting such narratives may be generating both financial and digital gain for him.

Criticizing such behavior, social media users have expressed their anger in poetic form, stating that a person who seeks praise from adversaries while leveling accusations against his own country loses all respect in society.
