Afghanistan secured their first victory of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by defeating the United Arab Emirates by five wickets in a group-stage match.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan opted to field first. The UAE batting side struggled to score freely and finished their 20 overs with a total of 112 runs.
In reply, Afghanistan chased the target with a steady approach. Despite losing several wickets, they reached the required total in 19.2 overs, completing the match with five wickets remaining.
The win follows two earlier defeats for Afghanistan in the tournament, against New Zealand and South Africa. With this result, Afghanistan remain part of the group-stage competition.
Qualification for the next round will depend on Afghanistan’s performance in their remaining matches and the outcomes of other group fixtures.
