Pakistan is observing the 88th death anniversary of the great thinker and philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal with deep respect and devotion. Iqbal, who passed away on April 21, 1938, is remembered as the Poet of the East whose poetry and thought not only laid the ideological foundation of Pakistan but also inspired a sense of selfhood and awakening among Muslims worldwide. On this occasion, the national leadership has paid rich tribute to his intellectual and philosophical contributions.
Mazar-e-Iqbal Ceremony
A ceremonial changing of the guard is being held at Mazar-e-Iqbal, where Pakistan Air Force personnel will take over security duties and lay floral wreaths at the shrine. Special arrangements are also being made across the country.
Nationwide Seminars and Educational Programs
Special seminars and literary events are being organized in educational institutions and cultural circles across the country to highlight Iqbal’s philosophy of “Khudi” and his vision of a separate homeland for Muslims.

President Asif Ali Zardari said that Allama Iqbal was not merely a poet but a moral and spiritual force who restored national confidence during times of oppression and division. He emphasized that Iqbal’s philosophy was rooted in social and economic justice and respect for hard work.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Tribute
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Iqbal as a great benefactor of Muslims of the subcontinent, saying his message is even more relevant today in the face of ideological confusion and extremism. He stressed that empowering youth through knowledge, skills, and character in the light of Iqbal’s teachings is essential for national progress.
