Security forces conducted a successful intelligence-based operation in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following reports of terrorist presence. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a fierce exchange of fire took place between security forces and militants, resulting in the killing of two terrorists belonging to the India-backed “Fitna al-Khawarij.”

Highly Wanted Terrorist Neutralized

ISPR stated that those killed include key ring leader Waheedullah alias Mukhtar and a suicide bomber. A suicide jacket, along with a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, was recovered from their possession. The spokesperson added that Waheedullah was highly wanted for his involvement in multiple attacks on security forces and innocent civilians.

Major Plot Foiled

Investigative sources revealed that Waheedullah was the main facilitator of the 21 February 2026 suicide attack in Bannu, in which Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz embraced martyrdom. ISPR said the operation not only dismantled a major terrorist network but also foiled a potential large-scale attack through timely action.

Government Reaction and Tributes

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the successful operation and paid rich tribute to the security forces. In his statement, he said the nation is proud of its brave personnel who eliminated highly wanted terrorists and kept the flame of peace alive. He reaffirmed that the entire nation stands with the armed forces in the fight against terrorism. A sanitization operation in the area is still underway to eliminate any remaining threats.
